How Long Do Wax Melts Last

Wax melts are a wonderful way to bring fragrance to your home or a particular room in your home. However, if you are unfamiliar with wax melts, maybe you have been wondering just how long do wax melts last? 

This question of "how long do wax melts last" is in fact be two questions.

1. How long can you burn a wax melt and still be able to smell the fragrance, and
2. How long can you store a wax melt before using it and when you do burn it for the first time, it still has a good fragrance.

Wax melts are typically 'burned' or warmed in a wax melt burner. Some are powered by electricity and with others the wax melts are warmed by one or more tealights. Our individually handmade wax melts burners are shown below with a tealight to warm the wax. The tealight adds to the ambience of the wax melts in a way that a battery or an electric wax melt warmer does not.

How Long do Wax Melts Last - Burn Time

The burn time refers to how long you can burn a wax melt before it stops releasing its fragrance. On average, we expect our wax melts to last between 6-8 hours. On average? There are factors that affect the burn time of any given wax melt, for example,

• fewer larger wax melts tend to last longer than a number of smaller ones.
• the type of wax used, with soy wax and beeswax usually having the longer burn times
• where the wax melts burner is placed. Try to avoid placing them near to drafty places such as outside doors or even doors to halls where the fragrance can get 'lost'. By placing your wax melter as near to the centre of a room as possible, it will allow the wax melt fragrance to circulate.
• also try to avoid radiators as the heat will cause the wax melt fragrance oil to evaporate more quickly.
• how many tealights are used in the wax melt burner. More tealights will give more fragrance but the fragrance oils will evaporate more quickly.
• If you are using an electric wax melt warmer, try turning down the heat to reduce the temperature of the wax. A higher wax temperature will cause the wax to melt more quickly and will also cause the scent to dissipate more quickly.

Each room and each home are different. You will need to experiment with your wax melts - for more fragrance, warmer rooms with more tealights will create more fragrance but the wax melt fragrance will evaporate more quickly.

How Long do Wax Melts Last - Storage Time

We consider that wax melts typically have a shelf life (before burning them) of approximately 12 months.

• store your wax melts in a moderate or cool, dark part of your home. , they could have a longer shelf life. Excessive heat can cause the wax to melt or soften, which can affect the fragrance and the overall quality of the product. Avoid storing wax melts in areas exposed to direct sunlight or near heat sources like radiators or ovens
• keep away from moisture. Moisture can cause the wax to become sticky or lose its scent. Make sure to store wax melts in an airtight container or packaging to protect them from humidity or water.
• keep your wax melts in their original packaging and away from sunlight and heat to avoid a loss of scent.

By following these tips, your wax melts can last for up to 12 months or longer, and the scent strength will remain strong and long-lasting

Can Wax Melts be Stored in a Fridge?

Not really!  Wax melts should be stored in a cool, dry and dark part of your home conditions, but not chilled or frozen!
