Our hand dyed Welsh yarn is made in small batches from locally sourced Welsh wool and dyed with natural dyes in our FelinFach Dye Studio,
By using quality natural fibre and sourcing ethically produced natural dyes, we are able to produce beautiful hand dyed Welsh yarn. The colours from natural dyes are enthralling. Hand dyed Welsh yarns may be repeated but they can never be exactly the same. The process will depend on where the dyestuff was grown, how and when it was harvested, the fibres being dyed, and the method of application we use - part of the beauty of a handmade product!
The sheep fleece available to us will change from time to time, but in all cases, the breed will be clearly noted. At present, we have local Welsh Mule, Icelandic and a blend of lambswool with mohair. The Welsh Mule breed is a cross between a registered Blue faced Leicester ram and a Welsh Mountain, Beulah or Welsh Hill Speckled-Face ewe. These Welsh hill breeds produce fine, high-quality wool, a characteristic inherited from the Blue-faced Leicester ram.
