Earth Day is an annual event held each April 22nd. It aims to promote and focus on environmental awareness and to remind us to take care of our planet earth. First held on April 22nd, 1970, Earth Day now includes a wide range of global events and is seen as a rallying call for real action on the climate crisis.
The official theme for 2024 is "Planet vs. Plastics" and will be the 55th anniversary of Earth Day. Earthday.org is unwavering in its commitment to end plastics for the sake of human and planetary health, demanding a 60% reduction in the production of ALL plastics by 2040.
The history of Earth Day dates back to 1970 and was inspired by a USA Senator Gaylord Nelson. Following an environmental diaster in the ocean off the coast of California, he chaired a student conference about the importance of clean air and water. April 22nd was chosen as a convenient date for the first meeting and organisers decided to name the date Earth Day.
In 1990 approached, a group of environmental leaders approached Denis Hayes to once again organise another major campaign for the planet on a global basis with over 200 million people in 141 countries and raising environmental issues onto the world stage.
Whilst Earth Day is an inspiration for us to redouble our efforts to be as sustainable as possible in our business activities, our sustainability aims are consistent all year long.
We have always aimed to operate our business as sustainably as we can.
Working with Tree Nation, we plant one tree for every product ordered from our website. Planting trees has been proven to be one of the most efficient solutions to fight Climate Change. Thanks to our reforestation and conservation projects, we help to restore forests, create jobs, support local communities and protect biodiversity. Our forest is modest but growing.
We clean up after ourselves. The carbon emissions generated by our website are offset or reduced to zero by planting trees we buy from Tree Nation. Our website emissions, less our carbon offsets equal a net zero emissions website.
We believe that we are close to "Plastic Freedom". High-quality, sustainably sourced plastic-free packaging that doesn’t cost the earth.
