Start your natural dyeing journey here, in the rural and relaxing area of Pembrokeshire. Learn how to hand dye protein fibres (animal fibres such as sheep wool, alpaca, yak and silk) or cellulose fibres (plant fibres such as cotton, linen, hemp and bamboo) using natural dyes only. No synthetic dyes are used by FelinFach.
The craft courses are a hands-on learning experience using ancient natural dyes such as Madder, Weld, and Cochineal, to name a few, in their natural form as well as extract. They are the foundation blocks of good practice for you to build and develop your own natural dye journey.
There is a beauty and depth of colour to natural dye that becomes more beautiful with age. These courses open the door to that world of colour, and you will be amazed at the colours you will be able to produce using nature and a little knowledge! You will leave with the knowledge to successfully dye yarn and fabrics with lasting colour to use in your projects at home, using only natural dyes.
What Experience do I need for this Workshop?
This workshop is designed for complete beginners and also for those with a little or maybe 'lapsed' experience in natural dyeing. As there is a maximum of four students to one Tutor on this workshop, tutoring can be tailored to each student to ensure that you get the best out of each workshop.
Location and Times
The workshop is held at the purpose designed FelinFach Dye Studio in the SA37 post code area, near to the villages of Boncath and Crymych and the coastal towns of Newport and Cardigan in West Wales. Driving directions and a link to Google Maps will be emailed to you in advance of the workshop. Please note that our rural location means that there is no public transport nearby. There is free parking onsite for one car per student.
The daily workshops begin at 10.00am and finish at 4.00pm (Taster half-day courses begin at 9.30am and finish at 1.00pm). We aim to have half an hour for lunch.
Lunch and Snacks
We provide a selection of snacks (tea, coffee, bottled water, crisps, biscuits and chocolate) all individually wrapped or bottled. We do not certify that these snacks are nut or gluten free. Please bring your own pack lunch as our location is some 3 miles from a shop.
