    Longest Burning Candles

Not all candle waxes burn at the same rate - some burn much faster than others. There are several factors which contribute to long burning candles including not only the type of wax, but the size and shape of the candle, the type of wick, and the environment in which the candle is burned. However, some types of wax are known for creating long burning candles.

The longest burning or longest lasting candles are Beeswax candles. Beeswax is naturally a harder wax than other types of wax, has a high melting point and as a result burns at a slower rate than other waxes.

Here is a list of the longest burning candles, longest burn time number 1).

    1. Beeswax (longest burning and longest lasting candle)
    2. Soy wax
    3. Coconut wax
    4. Paraffin wax
    5. Palm wax

Other Factors in Long Burn Candles

Apart from the choice of candle wax being used in candles, there are other factors that contribute to the longest burning candles.

    • Generally, larger candles have longer burn times than smaller candles since they contain proportionately more wax for the size of the flame.
    • Triple-wick candles: Triple-wick candles can burn longer than single-wick candles because they burn down the candle wax evenly in the jar shape and avoid tunneling effects.
    • Other multi-wick candles: Multiple-wick candles can burn longer than single-wick candles if the wicks are evenly spaced and not too close to the edge of the candles
    • Short and wide candles: Shorter and wider candles will generally burn slower than candles that are taller and thinner.

Tips for Getting the Longest Burning Candles

It is important to note that the wax burn time of a candle can also be affected by the size of the candle, the wick, and the way the candle is burned. For example, a larger candle will burn longer than a smaller candle, and a candle with a thicker wick will burn longer than a candle with a thinner wick. It is also important to trim the wick to 5 millimetres or 1/4 of an inch before each burn to prevent the candle from smoking and to ensure a long burn time.

    • Use a candle holder that is the correct size for the candle.
    • Trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each burn.
    • Keep the candle away from drafts and direct sunlight.
    • Burn the candle for at least two hours each time.
    • Do not burn the candle for more than four hours at a time.
    • Let the candle cool completely before relighting it.

By following these tips, you can enjoy your candles for longer.
