In the current candles vs wax melts debates, both options are popular choices for enhancing ambience and adding fragrance within your home, study areas or other spaces. However, there are some key differences between the two that may make one a better choice for you than the other. Ultimately, the choice between candles and wax melts may be one of personal preference. This guide aims to provide you with information to help you decide which is best for you, candles, wax melts or maybe both!
Candles have been around for centuries, but wax melts are a relatively new addition to the home fragrance world. Wax melts are small, solid pieces of wax that are gently warmed or heated to release their fragrance. They are typically made in small, disk-shaped pieces, squares or cubes. However, they can also be found in nearly every shape you can think of such as hearts, flowers and even seasonal shapes like Christmas trees!
Wax melts do not have a wick, possibly the single biggest difference with candles and are also known as wickless candles and flameless candles.
A Candle Chandler? - "a maker and seller of tallow, wax candles, and also usually soap". A chandlery was originally the office in a wealthy medieval household responsible for wax, candles and soaps as well as the room in which the candles were kept.
We are a modern-day candle chandler, hand pouring soy wax candles, tealights and wax melts using traditional methods and skills. Our eco-friendly candles, tealights and wax melts are made from sustainable and renewable plant-based candle waxes such as soy wax - we do not use any paraffin wax in our candle shop.
Our soy wax melts, branded and exclusive to FelinFach, are a popular choice to create a subtle fragrance in your home. Hand poured in small batches and blended with a variety of premium high-grade fragrance oil recipes that are also used in our Soy Wax Candles.
Available in a choice of fragrances, they are also an ideal way to ‘try before you buy’ one of our larger candles. Simply place one or more wax melts on to a wax melt warmer or burner to enjoy the wax melts fragrances. Each melt will last 6 to 8 hours.
So, if there is no wick in a wax melt, how do you use a wax melt? Wax melts are warmed by a heat source known as a wax melts warmer, or a wax melts burner or just a wax melter.
There are two types of wax melts warmers, one electric and one a tealight wax melts burner. With an electric warmer, you just plug it in an it will gently warm the wax and is completely flameless and wickless. Wax melt burners use unscented tealight to warm the wax which is lit in the same way as you light candles.
Which is best, and electric wax warmer or a tealight wax burner? The safest option is clearly the flameless, wickless electric warmer and where children and pets are present this could be the best option. However, if proper candle safety advice is followed, for the best ambience nothing can beat the atmosphere of a flickering flame, in this case a tealight in a wax melts burner.
Of course, there are also some advantages to candles and wax melts being warmed in wax melts burners by tealights. Both provide a more ambient light, both are more visually appealing and from an ambience perspective, nothing can beat a flickering flame. Depending on how you wish to use your candles or wax melts, maybe both have a place in your home.
It is always important to treat your soy wax candles and wax melts safely and with care. Please note the follow candle care advice...
