How do wax melts work

How Do Wax Melts Work

Wax melts are typically 'burned' in a wax melt burner and the wax melts are warmed by one or more tealights. Wax melt burners can be a flame-less electric burner or a traditional wax melt burner, (see image below). Oil burners are not suitable for wax melts.

Chandlery - Handmade Candles, Reed Diffusers, Tealights, Wax Melts

A Chandlery? - "a handmade maker and seller of tallow, wax candles, and also usually soap". A chandlery was originally the office in a wealthy medieval household responsible for wax, candles and soaps as well as the room in which the candles were kept.

Making Wax Melts Work

Wickless Candles

Essentially, wax melts are a wickless candle. They’re still made using our soy wax and beautiful fragrance oils. However, there is no wick in a wax melt and you don’t directly light a wax melt. Wax melts are warmed by tealights to melt the wax and when this has been achieved, the wax releases its fragrances, just like a candle.

Wax Burners

To melt a wax melt you’re going a wax melt burner and tealights. Put your wax melt onto the top of your burner and turn on your electric wax melter, or if you’re more traditional, light your tealight and place it in the bottom of your burner. The heat, be it electric, or flame, will begin to melt your wax and fragrance will consequently be released into the room.

When you've had enough of your wax melt, you simply turn off your electric burner or blow out the tealight (we recommend using a wick snuffer for safety) and you can allow the wax to harden before using again. Once your wax starts to lose its scent you simply remove and replace with fresh wax melt.

Do wax melts evaporate?

Wax doesn’t evaporate. Your quantity of wax will always remain the same, but the fragrance will disperse and the intensity will lessen with each burn. You can usually get a few burns out of your wax melt depending on the strength of the scent and how long you burn your melts for each time.
