    What is a Wax Melt

Wax melts are small, scented pieces of wax that can be used to fill your home with fragrance without the need for a candle wick. They are typically cheaper, longer lasting and safer than candles, as they do not produce any flame or smoke. Wax melts come in various shapes, sizes, colours and scents, and can be melted using either an electric or a tealight wax melt burner.

    Benefits of Wax Melts

Here are some of the benefits of using wax melts:

    • They are flameless, so they are safe to use around children and pets.
    • They are less messy than candles, as there is no wax dripping or wick to clean up.
    • They last longer than candles, as they only need to be heated until the wax is melted.
    • They are a more affordable option than candles, as they can be reused multiple times.

    Types of Wax

All our wax melts are hand poured with eco-friendly, plant-based waxes such as soy wax or soy wax blended with cocnut wax.

However, wax melts are made from other types of wax, such as paraffin wax, beeswax or palm wax. Each type of wax has its own advantages and disadvantages, such as melting point, scent throw, environmental impact and cost. Soy wax is one of the most popular choices for wax melts, as it is natural, vegan, biodegradable and has a lower melting point than other waxes, which means it lasts longer and releases more fragrance.

    • Paraffin wax: Paraffin wax is the most common type of candle wax. It is made from petroleum and is a white, solid wax. Paraffin wax is relatively inexpensive and easy to find. It is also a good choice for candle makers because it melts easily and has a long burn time. However, paraffin wax is not a natural product and can release harmful fumes when burned.
    • Soy wax: Soy wax is a natural wax made from soybean oil. It is a white, solid wax that is similar to paraffin wax. Soy wax is a good choice for candle makers because it is biodegradable and burns cleaner than paraffin wax. However, soy wax can be more expensive than paraffin wax and is not as easy to find.
    • Palm wax: Palm wax is a natural wax made from the fruit of the palm tree. It is a white, solid wax that is similar to soy wax. Palm wax is a good choice for candle makers because it is biodegradable and burns cleaner than paraffin wax. However, palm wax can be more expensive than paraffin wax and is not as easy to find.
    • Beeswax: Beeswax is a natural wax made by honeybees. It is a yellow, solid wax that is similar to paraffin wax. Beeswax is a good choice for candle makers because it is biodegradable and burns cleaner than paraffin wax. However, beeswax is more expensive than paraffin wax and is not as easy to find.

The type of wax you use for your candles will affect the look, feel, and smell of your finished product.

    Wax Melts Safety Tips

There are a few simple safety tips to follow when using wax melts:

    • Always use a wax melter designed for wax melts. Do not use a candle warmer or a hot plate to melt wax melts. These devices can get too hot and cause the wax to catch fire.
    • Never leave an electric wax melter unattended. If you must leave the room, turn off the wax melter or unplug it.
    • Keep wax melts out of reach of children and pets. Wax melts can be a choking hazard for young children, and they can also cause burns to pets if they ingest them.
    • Do not place wax melts near anything that can catch fire. This includes curtains, furniture, and bedding.
    • Do not melt wax melts for more than 4 hours at a time. This can cause the wax to overheat and catch fire.

    Potential Hazards of Wax Melts

While wax melts are generally safe to use, there are a few potential hazards to be aware of:

    • Fire hazard. If a wax melt is left unattended or if it is placed too close to something that can catch fire, it could start a fire.
    • Burns. If wax melts are dropped or if they come into contact with skin, they can cause burns.
    • Allergic reactions. Some people may be allergic to the ingredients in wax melts. If you have allergies, it is important to test a wax melt on a small area of skin before using it.

How to Avoid Wax Melts Hazards

By following the safety tips above, you can help to avoid the potential hazards of wax melts. Here are some additional tips:

    • Choose a high-quality wax melt. A good-quality wax melt will be made from a safe and non-toxic material.
    • Read the label carefully. The label should list the ingredients in the wax melt and any potential hazards.
    • Test a wax melt on a small area of skin before using it. This will help to ensure that you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.
    • Keep wax melts out of reach of children and pets.
    • Dispose of wax melts properly. Once a wax melt is finished, you can either throw it away or melt it down and reuse it.
    • Do not use wax melts in a poorly ventilated area. This can cause the fumes to build up and become dangerous.
    • Do not use wax melts if the wax melter is cracked or damaged. This could cause the wax to leak out and catch fire.
    • Do not use wax melts if the wax is discolored or has a strange odor. This could be a sign that the wax is contaminated.

Wax melts can be a safe and enjoyable way to add fragrance to your home. By following the safety tips above, you can help to avoid any potential hazards.

7 Tips on How to Use a Wax Melt

    • Choose a Wax Melt

Wax melts come in various shapes, sizes, and fragrances. Select a wax melt that appeals to your preferences. There are many options available, ranging from floral and fruity fragrances to earthy and seasonal aromas.

    • Select a Wax Warmer

A wax warmer is a device designed to melt wax melts safely and release their fragrance into the air. There are different types of warmers available, including electric warmers and tea light-powered warmers. Choose one that suits your needs.  All our Wax Melts Burners require an unscented tealight to warm the wax melts. A tealight and wax melt together combines the convenience of a wax melt with the flame flickering ambience of a tealight.

    • Prepare the Wax Warmer

If you're using an electric wax warmer, plug it into a suitable outlet and switch it on. For tea light-powered warmers, place an unscented tea light candle in the designated compartment and light it.

    • Place the Wax Melt

Remove the wax melt from its packaging and place it on the wax warmer's dish or bowl. Ensure that the dish is clean and free from any residual wax.

    • Warm the Wax

Allow the wax warmer to heat up and melt the wax slowly. As the wax melts, it will release its fragrance into the room. Be patient and avoid rushing the process by turning up the heat too high, as it may diminish the fragrance or cause the wax to evaporate quickly.

    • Enjoy the Fragrance

Once the wax has melted, the fragrance will permeate the air. Enjoy the pleasant aroma that fills your space. Wax melts can provide several hours of fragrance, depending on the brand and the size of the melt.

    • Replacing and Cleaning

Over time, the wax melt will lose its fragrance. When you're ready to replace it, allow the wax to cool and solidify. You can then remove the wax from the warmer either by gently tapping it or by using a spoon to scoop it out. Dispose of the used wax properly. If there is any residual wax left in the dish, you can clean it with a paper towel or a cloth once it has cooled down.

Lastly, one of the advantages of wax melts is the ability to mix and match fragrances. If you have multiple wax melts or cubes, you can try combining different scents to create your own custom fragrance blends. This experimentation can help you find unique and personalised aromas for your home. Enjoy the delightful fragrances and ambience that wax melts can bring to your living space!
