Our handmade candles are beautiful and relaxing, but it is also important to burn candles safely in your home or other space. Whilst there is a special beauty and tranquility to a burning candle, a lighted candle is also an open flame, and a potential fire hazard if not carefully monitored. Please follow these candle safety guidelines to ensure you, your family and loved ones stay safe.

10 Recommendations to Burn a Candle Safely

1. Always burn candles within sight on a heat resistant surface. Do not leave a burning candle unattended.
2. Never burn candles within the reach of children or where pets can come close to your candle.
3. Keep the wick short on your candles. Trim as required and whenever the flame grows in the jar. Trim the wick with a candle wick trimmer, scissors or a tissue.
4. Keep your candles away from flammable surfaces. Don’t put candles near curtains, fabrics, furniture or anything flammable.
5. Keep all candles away from draughts. Draughts can cause the flame to spark and may ignite nearby objects.
6. Keep burning candles at least 12cms [5 inches] apart and don’t put candles under shelves. Make sure there’s at least three feet (one metre) between a candle and any surface above it.
7. Never move candles when they’re burning. Extinguish candles and leave to cool completely before moving them.
8. Never go to sleep with a candle still burning. And never leave a burning candle or oil burner in a child’s bedroom.
9. Use a snuffer or a spoon to put them out. It’s safer than blowing them out, which can send sparks and hot wax flying.
10. Double-check candles are extinguished. Candles that have been put out can go on smouldering and start a fire. Make sure they’re completely out.

• The general warning triangle
• Never leave a burning candle unattended
• Always extinguish it before leaving the room, even if it is only for a minute.
• Keep away from children and pets
• Both children and pets might get attracted to burning candles or knock them over accidentally.
• Keep away from things that can catch fire
• Keep a large enough distance to combustible items beside and above the candle. Keep in mind that the flame might get larger during burning.
