Learn the hand dyeing process with natural dyes in rural Pembrokeshire. These half day natural dyeing 'taster' courses will introduce you to hand dyeing with botanical dyes using protein fibres – (animal fibres) wool, alpaca, yak, silk, and cellulose fibres – (plant fibres) cotton, linen, bamboo, hemp.
The craft courses are a hands-on learning experience using ancient dyes such as Madder, Weld, and Cochineal, to name a few, in their natural form as well as extract.
Half Day 'Taster' Courses
If you want to try Natural Dyeing to see if it’s right for you, need to refresh the basics or just don’t have the time to fit in a whole day, then our short Natural Dye sessions may be the answer.
These courses are a shorter experience that allows you to 'dip your toe' in the water – or dye pot in this instance! It introduces you to the wonder of producing natural colours. They run for 3 and a half hours (9.30am to 1.00pm) and take you through the basic stages of using Natural dyes and fibres. You will leave with quite a few samples that you have dyed yourself and possibly the bug to learn more!

All Craft Courses
We offer one day hands-on practical courses learning to hand dye protein fibres or animal fibres or a two two day combined course. The craft courses have one Tutor and a maximum number of six students. Spaces are limited to ensure you receive as much guidance as you need. We guarantee to hold each course irrespective of the number of students unless there is some unavoidable reason to cancel. These courses are suitable for complete beginners and those that have a little experience and would like to experiment further with natural dyes. They are the foundation blocks of good practice for you to build and develop your own natural dye journey.
You will take away from the workshops a number of skeins of yarn or cellulose fibres that you have personally dyed. You will also have your Dye Journal Notebook and a file of information covering what you have learnt during the day.
