Welcoming a new group today to the FelinFach Dye Studio for a 1 day craft course, Natural Dyeing of Protein Fibres. So what are protein fibres?
Protein fibres are animal fibres such as sheep wool. yak wool and silk. These fibres will be dyed by hand using ancient dyes such as Madder, Weld, and Cochineal, to name a few, in their natural form as well as extract.
The students will
experience 6 hours of guided tuition on hand dyeing yarn fibres using natural dyes.
go you through the basic principles and practice of natural dyeing using, for example, madder, cutch, logwood and others.
understand the practical steps of natural dyeing from start to finish as well as creating the foundations for more advanced processes
All equipment is provided and they will take away skeins of yarn of various sizes that they have personally dyed. They also will have a Dye Journal Notebook to record their recipes and and a file of information covering what thry have learnt during the day.
