Hand Dyed Yarn - Naturally Dyed

Our hand dyed yarn is made in small batches from the finest UK wool and dyed only with natural dyes. There are no exceptions! This is matter of personal preference and not a 'right or wrong' or 'good or bad' issue. Our choice is to dye all our yarn and other fibres only with natural dyes. Our hand dyed yarn is an eco-friendly product that sits well with our Mission of NATURAL TRADITIONAL  HANDMADE. 

Natural Dyeing Process

Our naturally dyed yarn is dyed by hand, rather than by a machine. By using quality natural fibre and sourcing ethically produced natural dyes, we are able to produce beautiful hand dyed yarn. The colours from naturally dyed yarn are enthralling. Hand dyed yarns may be repeated but they can never be exactly the same. The natural dyeing process will depend on where the dyestuff was grown, how and when it was harvested, the fibres being dyed, and the method of application we use. Browse through our thoughtfully hand dyed yarn selection and know that your project will always be one of a kind, part of the beauty of a product.

Welsh Yarn

Welsh fleece -  This yarn has been washed, carded, spun and plied at a third generation family owned Welsh mill that also weaves some of our throws.  It is then hand dyed at our studio using natural plant extracts. It is 100% Welsh wool - from fleece to finished yarn, a Welsh product.  

4Ply and Sock Yarn

All of the yarn for sale in this collection is British wool spun in Yorkshire and hand dyed in small batches by FelinFach using ethically sourced natural dye.

A choice of different sheep breeds each bringing their unique characteristics to the yarn. Strong, vivid, saturated colours as well as softer tones and variegated. Suitable for knitting, crochet, weaving, wall hangings ....

Natural Dyeing Craft Course

Start your natural dyeing journey here, in the rural SA37 postcode area of Pembrokeshire - nearest villages are Boncath and Crymych and the coastal towns of Newport and Cardigan in West Wales. Learn how to hand dye protein fibres (animal fibres such as sheep wool, alpaca, yak and silk) or cellulose fibres (plant fibres such as cotton, linen, hemp and bamboo) using natural dyes.

These natural dyeing craft courses are a hands-on learning experience using ancient natural dyes such as Madder, Weld, and Cochineal, to name a few, in their natural form as well as extract.  You will leave with the knowledge to successfully dye yarn and fabrics with lasting colour to use in your projects at home.
