FelinFach uses only natural dyes. The colours from natural dyes are enthralling, each will depend on where the dyestuff was grown, how it was harvested, the fibres being dyed, and the method of application. Hand dyed colours, dyed with natural dyes may be repeated but they can never be exactly the same - part of the beauty of a handmade product!
Hand dyed yarn, dyed with natural dyes at the FelinFach Dye Studio - we do not use synthetic or dye colours. We dye in small numbers to ensure quality of dye uptake and to try and ensure a consistent colour between skeins. Although acid dyes are the most popular method to dye wool or fabric, hand dyed yarn, dyed with natural plant-based dyes remains a hand crafted product, sometimes unique but always never mass produced
All (not some or even most) of FelinFach's hand dyed yarn and fabric are dyed using natural dyes, both plant and insect extract natural dyes on site at our FelinFach Studio in Pembrokeshire, Wales. Our yarn is 100% natural fibre, including Wool, Alpaca, Mohair, Linen, Silk and they are either Welsh or UK yarns. Our dye recipes include traditional and natural dye stuff such as Indigo, Madder, Weld, Indigo, Logwood to name a few and whilst the synthetic acid dyes are easier and less time consuming to use, there is a beauty and depth of colour to natural dye that becomes more beautiful with age
