FelinFach is based in a 200 year old former flour mill in the Preseli area of Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. Our products, their provenance and how they are made, are guided by our these three little words, Natural - Traditional - Handmade. No products are mass produced and some are available in limited numbers only and some products are 'one offs' and unique.
Natural Traditional Handmade. Our range of wool products include Welsh tapestry blankets, Welsh blankets, scarves, throws and Welsh tartan scarves. All these products are hand woven in Wales on traditional looms. Whilst many of the patterns of our blankets and throws are traditional, our designs also bring new colours and colour combinations in some blankets and throws for a modern contemporary look.
Natural Traditional Handmade. In our purpose designed dye studio in Pembrokeshire, we make hand dyed yarn, cotton, silk and wool scarves all with natural dye colours. No synthetic dyes are used. We also hold Natural Dye Workshops and Courses for beginners and advanced students - all the hand dyed yarn on this website are made by the tutor of these workshops.
Our hand dyed yarn is produced from the finest British wool with natural dyes in our FelinFach Dye Studio. By using excellent quality natural fibre, including locally sourced Welsh yarn as well as British yarn, and by sourcing botanical natural plant dye extracts, we are able to produce beautiful naturally dyed yarn, cotton and other fabrics. The colours from natural dyes in general and also from natural plant dyes are enthralling. Each will depend on where the dyestuff was grown, how it was harvested, the fibres being dyed, and the method of application we use.
It takes time, knowledge and patience but we love what we are able to do at the Dye Studio and hope that this comes through in our yarn. Have a browse through the hand dyed yarns available and know that your project will be one of a kind. There is a choice of yarn weights, Double Knitting, Aran, Lace, Sock and 4 Ply yarns. Hand dyed yarn with natural dyes may be repeated but they can never be exactly the same - part of the beauty of a handmade product!
We have a range of books and magazines for crafters and makers for a wide variety of craft projects including instructions and patterns using various fibres and fabric. In our Learn a Craft section are "how to" beginners books on knitting, crochet and calligraphy as well some advanced stitch techniques. Go to our Reference section for an eclectic mix of good reads such as Almost Lost Arts and Vanishing Fleece!!
Our company, FelinFach Natural Textiles is located in the heart of the Preseli area of Pembrokeshire near to Boncath. We design Welsh blankets and the iconic Welsh Tapestry blankets which are traditionally woven at Welsh mills. We also design and make natural hand dyed yarn, cotton, silk and wool scarves and other handmade products, all available in our yarn store and shop. We also offer Welsh tartans, Sheepskin Rugs, Gift Cards and tools and books for crafters and knitters - Cocoknits, Laine, Amirisu and Making to name a few! Lastly, craft courses on hand dyeing with 100% natural dyes in the purpose designed FelinFach Dye Studio. We are a proud supporter of the Campaign for Wool, All Things Wales and Global Welsh.
