FelinFach Natural Textiles

Introduction

FelinFach is an independent Welsh company based at a 200 year old former flour mill in the Welsh speaking, rural Preseli mountain area of Pembrokeshire, Wales, UK. We design and make handmade cushions, throws, bedding and hand-dyed yarn with natural botanical plant based colours and extracts. We also design traditionally woven Welsh blankets and the iconic Welsh tapestry blankets which are woven for us in local mills in pure new wool.

We use the fabrics from these local mills to make our handmade Welsh wool crafts. We use wherever possible, wool from quality rare-breed sheep. We also make hand dyed scarves from cotton, silk and wool and also hand bound note books.

About FelinFach, based in the Welsh speaking and rural Preseli Mountains (or hills!), part of the Pembrokeshire Coast national Park

The Naming of FelinFach

For many years, FelinFach operated from a room in the main house (the big mill) for sewing but when it became not big enough for work, it moved to a renovated studio building in the garden. We had spent ages thinking of a name for the business without anything making sense. Then inspiration - we had always called the studio building in the garden, the little mill and FelinFach means "little mill" in Welsh and from then on the business name became FelinFach. The logo came from the two capital letter F's in our name, toppled over to form mountain peaks, symbolising the Preseli mountains where we live and work.

FelinFach comes to life

FelinFach had started as a 'pie in the sky vision' but had somehow turned into a real possibility for a rural business. As the website was developed, and as my work space was built, the possibility of having a business began. On a personal note, I have been dyeing wool, knitting, sewing and quilting for longer than I care to remember and certainly willing to tell! But the opportunity had now arrived where I could spend more time on my favourite pastime designing and making Welsh wool blankets and throws, handmade quilts, cushions and hand-dyed yarns with natural colours - FelinFach had come to life.

Our core principles for all our products are Natural, Traditional, Handmade, all made in Wales or with a Welsh 'flavour'!  Today, FelinFach designs and makes wool products in pure new wool including Welsh tapestry blanketsWelsh blankets, picnic blankets, scarves and so, so cosy throws. Hand dyed yarn, cotton, silk and wool scarves all with natural dye colours. FelinFach also offers Hand bound booksGift Cards and Welsh gifts.

FelinFach Events

FelinFach primarily an on-line Shop which is 'open' 24/7, but does visit events, festivals and craft fairs throughout the year.

However, as you all are likely aware, our world here is Wales and the United Kingdom is experiencing an unprecedented pandemic event with the global spread of COVID-19. While the area of the world that FelinFach Natural Textiles calls home has not been as drastically impacted as others, we wanted to let you know about some of the steps we are taking to be good citizens in our community.

First and foremost, the health and safety of our community—our employees, customers, and partners—is our top priority. We are lucky that most of our team members already work remotely, so this change won't have any impact on our business operations. All purchases thankfully made by you will be delivered within our normal Shipping Policies – there is no change here at all.

As of March 13th we've closed our office, have no planned public Fairs or Shows and have asked all of our team to work from home. Earlier this month we suspended non-essential business travel, and we've now suspended all travel completely. We will be re-evaluating these policies as of March 31st and as often as necessary thereafter, and we will keep you all up to date as best we can.

This is very much a preemptive step, intended to reduce the likelihood of a more widespread outbreak of the virus within our community. It's a small but important way of contributing positively to the situation and keeping our team and neighbours as safe and healthy as possible.
