It was good to see an article in the Walesonline website today headlined “Welsh wool is on its way back”. For those of you who don’t know, this website is the online presence of the National Newspaper of Wales, the Western Mail.
At FelinFach we didn’t think that wool and in particular Welsh wool had ever been ‘away’ as Welsh woollen fabrics have been at the core of our product portfolio since ‘day one’ and continues to be so. We have always sought to source our wool as local as possible to Pembrokeshire and have partnered with Welsh mills who traditionally weave the wool using hand looms not mass production looms. We do have to source wool from other parts of the UK from time to time but only from the highest quality rare-breed sheep. However, wherever possible, quality Welsh wool, traditionally woven locally to us is always our first choice.
Maybe in times gone by, wool has not been at the forefront of retail fashion but it is great to see its revival. In this regard, we are supporters of the Campaign for Wool which is a global community of sheep farmers, retailers, designers and manufacturers to promote woollen products. The Campaign for Wool aims to educate as many people as possible about the incredible benefits and versatility of wool in fashion, furnishings and everyday life.
Handmade cushions, blankets and throws made with Welsh wool, traditionally woven in Welsh mills remains at the core of FelinFach products. But who would have thought a few years ago that you would see FelinFach making cases and covers for iPhones, iPads, iPods, Blackberry’s and Kindles out of wool! Well, we do and they have become a popular part of our product portfolio in the UK and abroad.
Anyway, back to the today’s Walesonline headline – we’re pleased others are beginning to agree with us – you can’t beat quality Welsh wool products!
