Centring and securing a wick to a candle container has an aesthetic benefit but it is also a safety issue. A properly centred wick creates an even wax pool, an even burn and is important for the safety and performance of a burning candle. When the wick is not properly centred, it can lean or fall over to one side of the candle container, potentially increasing the heat in one part of the container. This may risk damaging the container itself and it can create a burn risk for customers.
You have chosen your candle wick, now you need to ensure;
After the wick has been cut to the right length, slightly taller than the container, using a wick centring tool helps keep the wick in the centre of the container as you pour the wax. It is possible to centre a wick 'by eye' but experience will tell you, sooner or later, that a centring tool is the reliable way to centre a wick. A centring tool becomes all the more important with multi wick candles, such as 3 wick candles.
There are some different ways to secure a wick to the candle container, but this guide explains the most common method, namely using what is known as a 'stickum'.
You can stick the wick directly to the bottom of the container using a double-sided adhesive sticker, the 'stickum'.
A Candle Chandler is a "maker and seller of wax candles and also soap". A chandlery was originally the office in a wealthy medieval household responsible for wax, candles and soaps as well as the room in which the candles were kept.
We are an experienced modern-day candle chandler. We hand pour candles but also other fragrance items such as reed diffusers, tealights and wax melts. Our eco-friendly candles are made from sustainable and renewable plant-based candle waxes. Wherever possible, we use wood wicks in our candles for that sound and light ambience! All shipped in plastic free, recyclable packaging and carbon neutral shipping.
We are also candle making tutors for our candle making workshops, designed for complete beginners and those with some experience.
